Handling mixed scrap, ore, or bulk material on conveyor belts in Tanzania comes with a constant risk of metal contamination. Overband magnetic separators, also known as cross belt magnetic separators (OBMS), tackle this problem directly. They sit above the conveyor and pick up ferrous particles before they reach crushers, screens, or other equipment, protecting machines and improving product quality.
The design is simple but effective. Strong permanent magnets run across a moving belt. As material passes underneath, steel, iron, and other ferrous pieces are attracted and lifted away from the main flow. They are then discharged separately, leaving clean material on the conveyor. This works for lumps, powders, scrap, and even wet material in certain setups.
Installation is flexible. OBMS can be mounted over straight conveyor runs, inclined belts, or chutes. Adjusting the height and belt speed ensures maximum metal recovery without slowing production. We also provide supporting components like sturdy frames and drive units so the separator integrates seamlessly with existing lines.
Maintenance is straightforward. The magnetic belt is accessible, easy to inspect, and requires minimal intervention. The permanent magnets retain strength for long periods, so downtime stays low. That makes the system practical for mining, recycling, steel, and material handling industries where production can’t stop for cleaning lines frequently.
Performance depends on careful calibration. The gap between the magnet and material, belt speed, and angle of installation all matter. We work with each client to adjust these factors so the OBMS captures maximum ferrous contamination without interfering with the workflow.
For Tanzanian industries, the overband magnetic separator is a reliable, practical solution to remove metal, reduce equipment wear, and maintain consistent product quality across conveyor systems.
